Social Media Marketing Trends Week of January 27

One of our community members shared something so raw this week that I had to address it:

She said:

“My kids have been struggling to get my attention (too much phone) and I feel bad… working at home has been so stressful with everything else going on that’s breaking my heart. I need to make a change and put them as a priority, and model self control of technology.”

(If you're feeling seen right now, keep reading...)

Here's the thing - we're all trying to build something meaningful online while raising tiny humans who need us to be present.

It's a messy balance that nobody warns you about in business school.

But after years of trial and error (and plenty of mom guilt), I've found some silly little hacks that actually work for me:

1) I started doing these wild things called "phone-free days" on weekends. It’s freeing and forces me into true presence in the moment. My kids are different. I'M different.

2) Try the "upstairs-downstairs rule" - when I'm doing bedtime routine with my littles, my phone stays charging in a completely different room. No DM is more important than hearing about their day while they're still willing to tell me about it.

3) Sometimes I ask my husband to hide my phone for an hour or two. Is it slightly unhinged? Yes. Does it work? Also yes.

4) And here's my favorite rule: no mindless scrolling until I've posted my content for the day. It's like eating your veggies before dessert, but for social media. Thats why we do the work of scrolling for you to find these trends to inspire you to create, and cut the distraction.

The algorithm will always want more of you.

Your kids just want you.

And hey - if you're feeling that screen-time mom guilt right now, know that recognizing it is the first step to changing it. You're not alone in this struggle, and you're not a bad mom for building something while raising your babies.
