Social Media (TikTok & Instagram) Trends Week of February 17.

Duolingo killed their mascot.

The content has been HYSTERICAL.

Who knows if this is really goodbye to Duo, or just an epic storyline.

It doesn’t matter - It’s fun to watch.

And that is why they are the GOAT social media brand account.

I have been thinking about what makes for great social, and I think that the bar has been raised!

and I have decided is that the best social media Is “Unhinged and On Brand”

But let me define these two attributes:

1) Unhinged - this means that for some element of the video, it feels incredibly real. Either it’s super relatable, or the production quality isn’t over produced. Unhinged doesn’t mean chaotic or unplanned. Just a perfect dose of authenticity that makes an audience say “yes - finally someone said it!”

2) On Brand - meaning it has intention, and relates back to the rest of the brand. It’s the brand personified for the season.

Over the past month and a half, I have been talking to women who have used social media strategically to further their lives, careers, or communities.

  • One millionaire founder who started growing her business with Facebook communities, cold calling, and becoming friends with the mayor - who is now partnered with an agency to take on TikTok.

  • One 20-year corporate veteran who strategically invested in relatable and educational social media content to launch a new product under her parent company.

  • One mortgage broker who leaned into social for her and her team, and became a financial and entrepreneurial influencer by doing so.

Each of them embraced the opportunities to be a little ‘unhinged’, while maintaining their brands.

I cannot wait to share these stories and more with you on Silly Little Social - The Podcast.

We were flirting with a Feb 26th date, but it’s looking like early March now.

(Turns out my 1 month timeline was a little rushed - FYI If you are thinking of launching a podcast, alongside a full time career, give yourself 3 months to do it right!)

If you’re in the NYC area, I’d love to invite you to the launch party!

Just reply to this email and I will add you to the invite list :)

On to your weekly content prompts!

When “A” Do This, When “B” Do That

This trending audio is all about showcasing those double standards we often don’t realize we have. The premise? Film yourself super enthusiastic and then hilariously annoyed while captioning the scenarios with "When I do this" and "When B do the same". Can also be “when a girl does A, when a boy does the same”.

This challenge sheds light on things we typically let slide for us or for a particular gender  but totally judge when it’s the other way around. Ready for some relatable (and laugh-worthy) examples.

Examples:

Doc, Crazy, Priorities, Black & White, Staring, IG audio
