TikTok & Instagram Trends: March
This Week’s Mindset:
“Do something today that your future self will thank you for.”
Dearest Creators,
I want to share an industry trend I am noticing that you need to know about.
In prior years, the internet has wanted unpolished, real people’s perspectives.
It was the antidote to the ‘perfect lives of Stepford wives’ that dominated by posting their Nordstrom Sales recommendations of 2015.
Enter UGC.
We came, we saw, we conquered it.
You and I have benefitted from this.
But lately - the overflowing of UGC and vanilla copy and paste influencers has audiences craving more.
Brands who want to stand out and win online are starting to shift to more high production-level content. (See Jacquemus, and Jacquemus, Elf using AI, Tower28, and Milani Cosmetics)
Well, “high production” might not be the right word.
It’s not necessarily filmed with crazy lighting or equipment.
It’s not necessarily only models and celebrities.
But it is MAX creativity.
No longer can you stand at your kitchen counter and show off a product and call it a day.
You have to turn up the creativity.
So perhaps we can call this “high effort” content.
I want this to not be discouraging to you, but rather an invitation for you to finally explore the most creative styles of content you have wanted to try.
That editing trick you ‘saved’ but never used?
Time to make your first video with it!
The concept you had to tape your camera to your toddler’s belly and let them run around wild in the backyard?
That could be the gold!
Meant to be the affiliate-driven sales leader? Master storytelling, talking to the camera, and making your VOs stand out your with crazy unique personality.
I personally think that UGC isn’t going anywhere, but it will be much more critical to be able to show that your UGC content converts. The creators who can attribute sales to their content will win and be able to keep doing it.
It’s time to lean into your passion for creativity and make videos that show you are an expert content creator.
The only way to get there is to experiment, and just push post.
Have fun with these trends this week, I can’t wait to hear about how you push your creativity and experiment in the Slack!
XO,
Lindsay
The White Lotus
Let's talk Parker Posey. You know her, you love her, and she's still living the moment. Starring as Victoria Ratliff in HBO's The White Lotus, Parker is reminding us why she's a cultural icon and she's going viral again, and it's all thanks to a hilariously unhinged interview moment.
During a chat with The Today Show, Parker was sharing her thoughts on playing Victoria, and, well, things took a turn. She began listing words that she finds hilarious: "There are such funny words. Like, I love... Tsunami! Buddhism! Nooo! Piper, nooo!"
Cue the Internet. This moment blew up so fast that people are now using a remix of her saying "Piper, nooo! Tsunami! Buddhism!" to create their own hilarious social media content.
Why is this blowing up?
Her delivery is iconic, her energy is unparalleled, and the Internet can't get enough of her charm.
How to use her in your social media:
Respond to something absurd: Use the remix to respond to a wild moment in your day.
A video of you responding to your overflowing inbox with "Emails, nooo! Meetings, nooo!"
A clip of your dog stealing your food with "Piper, nooo! Snacks, nooo!"
A dramatic recording of your morning coffee spill with "Tsunami! Buddhism! Latte, nooo!"
Examples: OG Interview, Spiritual Awakening, My brain, IG audio, Inside words, Bed.
